The Next Generation Propeller Inspection Bundle
3D scanning systems are a viable replacement for digital pitchometers. The Virtual Import Plugin allows you to extract angle-drop data automatically. This data is then analyzed for Class compliance with TrueProp.
TrueProp now offers a hardware and software bundle that includes TrueProp Virtual and the EinScan HX2 from SHINING 3D. This new bundle allows propellers as large as 60 inches to be scanned with a portable hand-held scanner. The user can enter the proper diameter and select the radial positions for extracting ISO-484 data. This process mimics the traditional pitchometer process, etching scan lines into the captured propeller in 3D.
EinScan HX2 from SHINING 3D
Propellers are difficult geometry to 3D scan. The propeller blades are helical and can be highly reflective. Blades are thin and sometimes overlap. Not all 3D scanners are capable of this type of metrology and inspection.
For propellers under 80 inches, we recommend hand-held blue-light laser scanners. Blue-light technology is best for bronze, stainless, and aluminum blade surfaces, offering the best robustness to environmental lighting, surface reflectivity, positional tracking, and accuracy. The TrueProp Virtual EinScan HX2 bundle is a professional grade 3D scanner that provides fast 3D capture from 14 simultaneous blue light laser lines (7 laser “cross-hatches”). It’s a portable handheld device which makes it ideal for inspecting propellers almost anywhere. This scanner offers the best balance of capability and hardware costs, allowing you to capture the propeller blade surfaces accurately and reliably at a competitive price. The scanner’s STL output is perfect for analysis with TrueProp: Virtual Edition. Using the TrueProp Virtual Plugin, even non-watertight STL meshes can be interrogated at the ISO-484 radial positions. This provides us with the pitch, chord lengths, blade outline, and other inspection metrics used for TrueProp’s Class reports. |

Computer Requirements
It takes a bit more computer power to 3D scan a propeller! The scanner sends raw data to the PC to be stored and meshed to create the propeller so you need to have enough RAM and a dedicated graphics card (GPU) for the best results! Minimum Specifications: • Processor – I5-3470 or equivalent • Graphics Card Video - Quadro card P1000 and higher or NVIDIA GTX660 and higher • RAM Memory – 8 GB • Interface – High Speed USB (3.0) Recommended Specifications: • Processor – I7-8700 or better equivalent • RAM Memory – 32 GB or greater • Graphics Card Video - NVIDIA GTX1080 and higher with at least 4GB video memory • Interface – High Speed USB (3.0) |
