Propeller Inspection:
Exposing the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
All propellers - even brand new propellers - have some variation from blade to blade. Reducing the differences between blades can restore and even improve propeller performance and efficiency. There are several ways to measure a propeller to expose these differences – in this 30 minute webinar, we’ll discuss different measurement methods and the advantages of a fully digital measurement and reporting system.
Virtual Inspection:
3D Propeller Laser Scans
Did you know that TrueProp also works with 3D laser scanners? In this webinar we will discuss using general purpose 3D scanning technology to inspect marine propellers as a novel alternative to traditional inspection methods such as gages or pitchometers. This webinar includes a technology demonstration: a pair of 30”x34” 4-blade propellers were digitized with a laser scanner during the period that the vessel was in dry-dock. From those 3D models, the ISO class and repair guidance was determined using the TrueProp software.
Propeller Repitching: Maybe, Maybe Not...
Did you know that the pitch of a propeller can be modified? This process - half art form, half science - provides us some flexibility for correcting performance problems or even re-using propellers with different engines and gears after repowering.
Join Adam Kaplan for this half hour webinar, where we will discuss how to identify a required pitch change, the practical limitations for repitching a propeller blade, and the physical geometric changes that occur during a propeller repitching.
TrueProp: Compatible Measurement Devices
TrueProp software is “device-independent”, which means the software is compatible with many different measurement systems. TrueProp is an excellent way to extend the usable life of older digital pitch measurement systems, and is the only software option available for “home-made” devices. Many people are asking, “What do I need to connect my device to TrueProp?” In this 30 minute webinar, Adam Kaplan discusses the requirements for TrueProp as well as the different pitch measurement systems we have connected with, including industry favorites such as the Linden DDS, Hale MRI, Prop Scan, Prop View 3, and Faro-based systems.
Stay tuned for future webinar notices!
These free, educational webinars are offered periodically on Thursdays at 3PM EST. Registration in advance is required for attending - we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming webinars!
